Guild Ford Floor Sanding
In the Guildford area, timber therefore became the norm in the roofs, wall-frames and doors of local buildings. But it is not only the fine wooden panelling of outstanding buildings such as Loseley House that bears testament to the skills of our forebears. This tradition particularly survives in wooden floors. The durability and natural beauty of wood is still unrivalled.

Yet wooden floors are too often undervalued: damaged, neglected or covered in carpets. If you are fortunate enough to have such floors in your home or business premises, congratulations. You have a great asset that will bring class and prestige to your property. If the floor is covered by carpets, why not uncover its charms? If worn or damaged, modern sanding and sealing techniques can restore a floor to its pristine original.

A restored floor adds value to a property, is easy to clean and more hygienic than artificial floor coverings. This is a job for experienced professionals. Guildford Floor Sanding Co. offers the complete wooden floor renovation service throughout Guildford and West Surrey.
Services
Before renovation, some floors may need major or minor repairs.
We will assess them to determine the work required to create the perfect surface for the later stages of sanding, staining and sealing.
If any boards are damaged beyond repair, we will replace them using reclaimed timber - wherever possible, of the same quality and age.
A gap-filled floor has an even look which is pleasing to the eye but is not always necessary.
Filling gaps does prevent both draughts and the build up of dust between the gaps.
We can sand any type of wooden floor, old or modern: herring bone, parquet, finger mosaics, laminates, wide oak boards.
A job will take at least a full day, with large areas or multiple rooms possibly taking several days.
All rooms must be free of heavy traffic while we work.
We will discuss approximate timings with you during your free consultation.
Our sanding and collection system removes up to 98% of the dust, far superior to conventional sanding systems.
The preparation (knocking in nails to align the floorboards) and the sanding process itself is very noisy.
Our continuous belt machinery with its attached mobile extraction unit ensures that the job is virtually dust free.
Some dust is inevitable, but we minimize this by masking/screening and frequent vacuuming.
We also use edging sanders and fine tools to get right into the corners for complete and even sanding.
Stains enhance the wood grain and are used to alter the colour of wood (eg: darkening a pine floor).
Floor stains are applied by hand or roller and take at least eight hours to dry.
Coloured varnishes are available, but we recommend staining and varnishing in two distinct stages.
As the varnish or sealant wears away, it will not affect the underlying coloured stain.
Another option is to paint your floor or use a coloured wax (such as lime wax) which gives a soft tinting effect on the visible wood grain.
More durable than oil sealants, and easier to maintain, these products are typically used for mid to heavy traffic areas.
Modern lacquers no longer produce the 'plastic' look of old and offer a silky sheen in a matt, satin or high gloss finish.
Our recommended finish would be a polyurethane lacquer - highly resistant to wear but which may create some discoloration to the floor beneath.
As it is not a natural material, it can restrict the breathability of your wooden floor.
For areas experiencing lighter usage, a part polyurethane/part acrylic floor varnish might be preferable.
